Server Donations

Hello guys,

I have a question, I would like to put "Donations" to my Lineage2 Java Free Server. Anybody knows if that is illegal or legal? if you think that is legal is there any website that you can prove it? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

I dont think they are illegal cause they are DONATIONS meaning you dont have to give anything to them even if they donate.

Well...If you wanna make donations,and reward players in exchange for their donation,giving them enchanted weapons or rare items for instance is definetely ILLEGAL...Even l2 private servers are illegal lol...But,if you mean,donations with the real meaning of the word,so that they give you money in exchange of nothing,why would it be illegal...?

So who is gonna know if people will donate and I give enchanted weapons and staff for instance? How they gonna prove it that that spesific weapon was for that spesific donation? Its my server, I give whatever I want. Isnt that right?

l2j servers are not illegal even trouth ncsoft changed their eula because its not affected to l2j since it was created before

but l2j has to be open source

second donations are illegal if you reward player and its illegal to connect whit l2 clients to privat servers :)

Is there anybody here that can give me something official that says donation regarding a server and award a weapon or something is ILLEGAL or its LEGAL. Can somebody give me a quote from somewhere? Thank you in advance.

its not illegal.... dont listen to them.. use the donations on ur srv but dont make donations=inbalance(mean overenchanted donators kill everything on theyr way or edited stats/skills pwn all) donations keep servers good and lagless and updated+bugless(normal devs need money..) so think about it well.Donation isnt illegal its private srv and u dont tell to nobody DONATE ME!!!!if they want they do that and u reward them with something(items,stats,adena,enchants etc)

Depending on your countries tax laws, in most parts of the world it is considered income and you HAVE to pay taxes on it.

if u are smart, u can put an agreement on your site b4 they enter... so they cannot touch u... it doesnt require brains... just a little googling

Just because you can google and find a agreement on the internet does not make it legally binding.
Those agreements may not protect you. They have been discredited.

1. If you are doing anything illegal, including not paying your taxes on the "donations" to your server (business), the agreement is automatically null and void.

2. Most sites have an agreement about a "relationship" with ncsoft.
Your users have a relationship with ncsoft just by using the client.
By using that frivolous agreement, you can not legally have any players.

3. Hopzone and myself (as the L2J Admin), can not enter or preview your site according to the terms in many of those agreements. I have a relationship with ncsoft (its not a good one, but its still a relationship), and Hopzone collects data from your server.
Technically I do not have to add to the Hopzone list any site that has that agreement on its site. I do it any ways because we were invited due to your submission.

4. If you do not keep up your side of the agreement, what do you think happens?


Best advice. Don't use it until you have had the agreement, your site and your business reviewed by a lawyer. (And yes, running a gameserver and collecting "donations" is considered a business in many countries)

I use this in my servers, and I think its right :

Legal:
1. Submission of a donation to, "******* via the email using the paypal.com system" (later referred to "*******", "server", and "us") is a voluntary action completely unnecessary for game play on this server.
2. By submitting any type of monetary unit to *******, you agree that you are not entitled to receive anything from *******. This form of donation is completely voluntary, and is for the betterment of the server *******. Rewards are given to those who have donated as a thanks to you for your continued support of the server *******.
3. By submitting a donation via paypal to ******* you agree to the terms presented in the following 5, lettered statements (A-E), and their subsections:
A. You will at no time recall your payment from *******
B. You will not dispute the charges incurred to your paypal account from your voluntary donation to *******.
C. You realize that this is a voluntary donation, and in being a donation it is not refundable.
D. You understand the concept of a "donation" and "voluntary", and agree to all the aforementioned rules (see subsections a and b ) .
a. Donation [doh-ney-shuhn] - Noun - an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution.
b. Voluntary [vol-uhn-ter-ee] - Adjective - done, made, brought about, undertaken, etc., of one's own accord or by free choice.
E. If you do not agree to these terms, or cannot honor this contract, do not send in a donation.

It is legal,but it makes your server BAD with donators.
