# 1About this guide.
It's been many months on end since MapleGlobal first started and since then, many magicians have spawned. This guide has been created to be relevant with the magician population and to all those people that want to become magicians. This guide automatically assumes you are a complete beginner. Thanks.
# 2FAQ.
What is AP? AP stands for "ability point". Ability points are points that you put on certain stats, which include STR, DEX, INT, LUK, HP, and MP. You get 5 ability points every time you level up.
Why should I try to get the lowest stats on STR and DEX rather than trying to get the highest stats on INT and LUK? As a magician, you are, by default, weak physically but strong with magic. As you level up, these extra ability points will be useless, and you will be weaker in your magic too. Therefore, we try to maximize your damage by reducing the amount of unnecessary ability points.
I've noticed that I can add AP's to an HP and MP stat. What do they do and is it advisable to add to them? The HP and MP stats just add to your max HP and MP. I'm not sure how much they add per point and I would not advise adding AP's to them at early levels.
Why are INT and LUK important for magicians? INT (Intelligence) is extremely important for magicians because it increases their magic damage and increases your MP count. The LUK helps increase your damage only by a little, but it is a requirement in your equipment, therefore we use as little LUK as possible but enough to wear your level's equipment.
Why aren't STR and DEX important? Neither STR (strength) or DEX (Dexterity) is required to wear your equipment. Therefore, you will be weak at your starting levels, but strong later on.
What is SP? SP stands for "skill points". Skill points are points that you put on certain skills to activate or upgrade them. As a magician, you receive your first skill point at level 8 when you become a magician and every level after 10 you receive 3 skill points.
I have noticed that on some levels you have the word "save" but I can't find that skill. What is it and what does it mean? When you see "save", please note that this is not a skill. It is just there to tell you that you are not spending any skill points and the number next to it tells you the points that are saved. A brief explanation of why it is wise to save skill points is that when a skill is raised to level 11, the MP/HP requirement for it doubles while the skill's effect only increments by a little. Therefore, you will see that on many guides, the author will tell you to save 10 points after a skill is raised to level 10 and then spend the 10 saved points all at once.
# 3The road on being a magician.
You already known that that all magicians are very strong using magic but not strong physically. Therefore, we will have to use a very special technique to maximimize your damage capabilities. Keep reading to find out.
Once after pressing the "Create A Character" button, you will be directed to a screen were you chose how your character looks.
The dice roller rolls for your statistics, it will determine how strong your character in the future. One wrong point and it cost you a bunch of damage points lost. Please keep in mind that this dice rolling procedure is very important and patience is needed to complete and succeed this.
The suggested stats are shown below and in the picture above:
STR: 4
DEX: 4
INT: *
LUK: *
* Means the numbers can be anything
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We want your character to have 4 STR and 4 DEX because these two skills are useless for a magicians. We must focus all skill points onto the skills that actually are used by a magician which is the INT and LUK.
Note: This process make take up to half an hour on average. Make sure you are patient, otherwise, your character will not be as strong.
Ok, now you are ready to go on your journey as a beginner. Every single character starts out as a beginner. During your tour of Maple Island, you will learn some techniques and features that maplestory provides. All this is preparation so you can get out of there and go on real journeys and become a Magician. While being a beginner, you will not lose experience points (which are required to level up), but when you become a magician, you will lose EXP after dieing. These experience points are precious because later on in maplestory, you will take hours to gain a lot of experience. Therefore, you must avoid dieing. But since you're a beginner right now, you can die as many times as you want without losing any experience.
You will see monsters such as the Red Snail, Green Snail, Blue Snail, Shroom, and Orange Mushroom. You must keep killing all these monsters until you reach level 10.
For each level you gain, it is important to remember to add Ability Points. For each level, you obtain 5 ability points. For a magician, we suggest that you press the UP arrow on INT three (3) times and the UP arrow on LUK two (2) times. Eventually, you will need to match up your strength and dex to outmatch the minimum requirements to become a swordman.
- Stats needed to become Magician: LEVEL: 8
LUK: 13
Please note the rule for your AP is
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INT: +3 everytime you level up
LUK: Should be your level +3. For example, you are level 15, therefore your LUK should be 18.
Once you have reached level eight, exit maple island by going to South Perry and asking Shanks to leave maple island. You will then be teleported to Lith Harbor. At Lith Harbor, go down from the boat and find the Ticket Booth (should not be far from the boat) and go to Ellinia. At Ellina, climb up all the way to the top and enter through the blue portal. Talk to Grendel the old and he will instruct you on how to beocme a magician.
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/8859/grendelzg9.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)
Soon as you become Magician you can now fight for a cause. You can beat on things that you couldn’t beat before. If you experience people that steals your kills, change channels or ask them politely to stop kill stealing. Remember, if you can go pass all the suffering of the magician, you will join the ranks of the strongest jobs in the world of MapleStory.
# 4Skills.
Please refer to the Skill Point recommended table which will be shown later on if you need help choosing. These recommended ability point adjustments are set to make your magician function the best it can. The following is only a list of the skills a magician could possess.
Improving MP recovery: With this, you'll recover even more MP every 10 sec.
Improving MP increase: Increases the maximum amount of your MP.
Magic Guard: Temporarily replaces damage with MP instead of HP. If MP reaches 0, the HP takes a full hit.
Magic Armor: Temporarily boosts the weapon defense by blowing magic into the armor.
Energy Bolt: Use MP to attack an enemy once.
Magic Claw: Use MP to attack an enemy twice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everytime you level up, you gain 3 skill points. This guide will also show you how to use these skill points properly. Follow the guide and everything will be all right.

Notice: We do not use magic armor due to the way it functions. As you see, it increases defense by a couple numbers, but when you become a higher level, these couple of numbers will be useless. Magic Guard works differently, it reduces your damage taken by 80% (master level) instead of a couple numbers.
# 5Places To Train.
LEVEL 1-4 blue and green snails
LEVEL 4-6 blue, red, and those small mushrooms (otherwise known as shrooms)
LEVEL 6-10 orange mushrooms, slimes
LEVEL 10-15 slimes and orange mushrooms
LEVEL 15-20 pigs and ribbon pigs
LEVEL 21-30 the Kerning City party quests, or green and horny mushrooms
LEVEL 30-36 wild boars, or find a cleric and go to evil eyes
LEVEL 35-40 wild boars, evil eyes, fire boars
Note: we recommend monsters you can kill in one or two hits. If you kill a monster in three or more hits, you are wasting your money and time. Sure it may seem like a lot of experience to gain but due to the time lost and money lost, it is faster to train on monsters you can kill in one or two hits.
# 6Tips.
Try not to die - it isn't a good thing. Sometime people laugh at you too if you die we don't want to be laughed at do we?
Figure out what second job you want to be beforehand so you can prepare for the skill requirements for that certain job.
Don't let anybody's talk get to you. If they are doing that they want to fight so just ignore it and keep training. It's best not to give them what they want.
If you're patient, then find a nice patch of land where no monsters can get you and heal instead of using potions - you save money. You can go do something else to like talk on MapleTip.
If you get KSed (Kills Stolen from you) don't yell and be mean. That only promotes bad behavior and makes them mad at you, and then they'll just keep KSing you till you leave. They might even follow you. Just ask politely if they continue then just move somewhere else. There's nothing you can do to help solve the problem.
# 7Choose your Second Job Advancement.
When you reach lvl 30, you should go back to where you first got your job of Magician and talk to Grendel the really old. When you talk to him, he will give you a letter to take to his instructor.
His instructor can be found at the forest north of Ellinia, just find it on the world map (press W in game) and head toward the field. Buy 50 or 60 orange pots before leaving because once you're in, you can't get out. At the field north of ellina, climb all the way up and you will see the "Magician Instructor". Go to the instructor at the top, and talk to him. He'll take you to the advancement area. All I can say after this is, go after the cursed eyes and horned mushrooms. Get 30 dark marbles, return to magician instructor and obtain the proof. Now, go back to Grendel the really old (Long lecture comes) Now here's the hard part. You're going to have to choose between Cleric, Fire/Poison Wizard, or Ice/Lightning Wizard. If you already decided before, go ahead with the class you want, but if you haven't, well, keep reading.
The Cleric
Pros: Can heal self without the use of potions, can heal others if in range and in party. Can also use holy arrows. Has high HP and defense. Strong against unholy monsters.
Cons: Can not attack multiple times. Very weak.
The Fire/Poison Wizard
Pros: Can use fire arrows or poison monsters. Does very high damage against ice based monsters and does high damage to everything else. Cons: Can not heal self without use of potions unless in party with cleric. Can not attack multiple times. Does half the damage using fire arrows on fire based monsters.
The Ice/Lightning Wizard
Pros: Can hit multiple monsters. Does more damage to fire based monsters and does more damage to lightning weak monsters. Levels very fast.
Cons: Can not heal self without use of potions unless in party with cleric. Can not do very high damage, (higher than cleric but lower than fire wizard). Uses high amounts of MP.
So choose carefully, next we will show what skills each of these wizards have.
# 8The Cleric.
The Cleric is the most popular magician path you can take from the 2nd job advancement.
Specializes in doing healing party members and itself. Can do high damages on Unholy monsters and can massively kill monsters that are unholy and weak to heal.
MP Eater: Steals some of the enemy's MP after every magic attack. But if its MP reaches 0, the MP eater stops working.
Heal: Recovers the HP of all party members around the area. The amount of healing depends on the number of people being healed, and the undead monster in the vicinity of this will receive damage.
Invincible: Temporarily decreases the weapon damage received. Doesn't decrease the spell damage, however.
Teleport: Use the arrow keys to teleport to other places in the same map on a set distance. The higher the skill level, the less MP you spend.
Bless: Temporarily increases the weapon def., magic def., accuracy and avoidability of all party members around the area. BUT, it can't be used if combined with a skill or a potion.
Holy Arrow: Fires holy arrows at an enemy. Applies major damage to the undeads and devil-based monsters.

# 9The fire/poisen wizard.
The Fire/Poison Wizard is the least popular wizard in maplestory. The reason why is because he can only attack once and can not heal itself. But, its advantage is that it can do extremely high amounts of damage to all types of monsters except fire based monsters.
MP Eater: Steals some of the enemy's MP after every magic attack. But if its MP reaches 0, the MP eater stops working.
Meditation: Meditate for a bit to temporarily boost up the magic attack of party members around the area.
Slow: Temporarily slows down the opponents around you. Can't use it on them twice at once, and affects only 6 enemies per attack.
Teleport: Use the arrow keys to teleport to other places in the same map on a set distance. The higher the skill level, the less MP you spend.
Fire Arrow: Create a firearrow with the power of magic, and fires at an enemy. Applies 1.5 times the damage to the ice-based monsters, whereas fire-based enemies receive only half the damage.
Poison Breath: Create a poisonous water bubble, and shoots at an enemy. The enemy gets temporarily poisoned with a set success rate. Once poisoned, the HP slowly decreases.

# 10The Ice/Lightning wizard.
The only Wizard in maplestory that can hit multiple monsters at a time. This wizard is the fastest leveler and can destroy many enemies all at once.
MP Eater: Steals some of the enemy's MP after every magic attack. But if its MP reaches 0, the MP eater stops working.
Meditation: Meditate for a bit to temporarily boost up the magic attack of party members around the area.

Cold Beam: Creates a sharp piece of ice to fire at an enemy. The ones that are struck temporarily freezes. Damages the fire-based enemies 1.5 times more, where as the ice-based enemies get only half the damage.
Thunder Bolt: Creates an electric force field around the wizard and makes an electric lightening attack on every monster that's within the area.

Slow: Temporarily slows down the opponents around you. Can't use it on them twice at once, and affects only 6 enemies per attack.
Teleport: Use the arrow keys to teleport to other places in the same map on a set distance. The higher the skill level, the less MP you spend.

# 11Level 30+ Tips.
Remember, at level 30 you should be very smart by now. Do not fall for scams, use the mapletip market, and do not get ripped off. Train on wild boars, they are an EXP gold mine!
# 12Wizardy 101.
There are three types of wizards, but only one you. Be careful in maplestory, there are mean people.
A list of scams
There are hack advertising websites everywhere, if you see a hack related website, report them
There are people that asks you for your password, never give anyone your password, even if it's a GM
A GM always as the beautifully colored "GM" over their head and types in blue
Ocean Rocks
Never give your password to anyone but yourself
Never use false information when you sign up for maplestory
